A note from our team
Dogs are family. They get gifts too.
Houndmile started with one problem: dogs sliding into the footwell on car rides. We opened in October 2026 with a hard-bottom back-seat extender and a few road-trip basics.
This Christmas we're adding gifts for dogs and the people who love them: photo gifts made to order in the US, matching pajamas, cozy sweaters and jackets, beds, and interactive toys. The same rules apply to everything we sell: we only print specs we've confirmed, every review will come from a real buyer, and a real person answers every email.
We're new, and we'd rather earn your trust than pretend we already have. Questions? Write to us at support@houndmile.com.

Why we stand behind the gear
-
Hard boards, not a hammock
See the extenderOur back seat extender uses solid, removable boards to bridge the footwell, so your dog lies on one flat surface instead of a sagging sling.
-
Steps instead of a lift
See the stairsFour wide, textured steps on a light aluminum frame. It reaches about 23 to 26 in, then folds flat into its carry bag for the trunk.
-
Picked for a reason
Our storyEvery product has to answer the same three questions: does it fix a real road-trip problem, can we ship it free to US homes, and can we describe it honestly?
-
30 days on real drives
Returns policyTry it with your dog on the trips you actually take. If it isn’t right, send it back within 30 days. Every review on this site will come from a verified buyer.
Why dog owners switch
Hammocks sag. Boards don’t.
| Soft hammock | Houndmile extender | |
|---|---|---|
| Room to lie down | ✕Curled up on a slope | ✓Space to stretch out |
| The surface | ✕Dips toward the middle | ✓One flat, padded floor |
| The footwell gap | ✕Fabric sags into it | ✓Bridged by solid, removable boards |
Not a crash restraint. Always pair with a car-safety harness.

Soft hammock: it sags
The fabric dips into the footwell, so your dog stands and slides on a slope. (AI-generated illustration)
-
Houndmile extender: it stays flat
Solid boards bridge the footwell, so your dog gets one flat, padded floor to lie down on.

Community
Dogs are family. Not every dog has one yet.
Ways road-trip people can help shelter dogs: adopt, foster, drive for a rescue, or share a dog who’s waiting.
-
Still waiting
Two in three dogs in US shelters are adults. Many wait months for someone to come back for them.
-
A meal from a stranger
For a street dog, a bowl of food and a kind hand can be the best part of the day. Volunteers around the world make that happen.
-
The ride home
Adopt, foster for a weekend, or drive a rescue dog to its new family. Every one of those trips changes a life.
Questions, answered
How long does shipping take?
Every product page shows where it ships from, its delivery estimate and the last order date for Christmas. Most items made or stocked in the US arrive in 4–12 business days; items from our partner warehouse in China in about 8–17 days. You get a tracking link by email as soon as your order ships.
Can I return something?
Yes. You have 30 days from delivery. See our Refund Policy.
Will it fit my car or my dog?
Each product page lists the sizes we have confirmed. Not sure? Email a photo of your back seat or your dog’s measurements to support@houndmile.com and we’ll help you choose.
How hard is the extender to install?
It clips to the front and rear headrests in about a minute, with no tools. Slide the boards in, buckle the straps, and the back row is one flat floor.
Is it waterproof?
The Oxford fabric is water-resistant: it sheds mud, hair and water and wipes clean with a damp cloth. The seams are not sealed, so blot big spills quickly.
What if my dog won’t use the car stairs?
Start on the low-angle setup with a leash and a few treats on the steps. Most dogs get it in a few short sessions. If it still doesn’t work out, you have 30 days to return it.
Are your products safety restraints?
No. Our gear is for comfort and convenience. Use a car-safety harness or a secured crate on every drive.
