Fit Guide

The Houndmile Back Seat Extender fits most sedans, crossovers, mid-size SUVs and pickup trucks with a rear bench seat.

Size (approximate, from the supplier’s drawing)

  • Width across the back row: about 52 in (132 cm). Most rear bench seats are about 50 to 58 in wide.
  • Hard platform, from the rear seat cushion to the back of the front seats: about 24 in (62 cm).
  • Seat section depth: about 22 in (57 cm).

Measure in 30 seconds: measure your back seat from door to door, then the distance from the rear seat cushion to the back of the front seats. If that distance is shorter than about 24 in, slide the front seats forward a little; if it is longer, slide them back so the platform sits flat. Not sure? Email us a photo of your back seat and we will check it for you.

Check before you buy

  • Your back seat is a full bench, not two separate captain's chairs.
  • There is room between the back of the front seats and the rear seat cushion for the boards to sit flat. If the gap is short, slide the front seats forward a little.
  • The headrests on the front and rear seats can hold the straps.

Not designed for

  • Captain's chairs
  • Minivans with a removable middle row
  • Cars without headrests

Folding Car Stairs: measure in 30 seconds

  1. Park on flat ground and open the rear door or hatch.
  2. Measure from the ground to the cargo floor (or to the seat, if your dog rides in the back seat).
  3. If it is about 23 to 26 in, the stairs fit: use the low angle for lower cars and the high angle for SUVs and trucks.

Folded, the stairs measure about 16.5 x 13 x 5.5 in in their bag, so they fit in most trunks. Higher than 26 in? Email us and we will help you check.
